Bekezela Nsingo, her story
It all started in 2008 when I visited Filabusi one of the rural areas in, Zimbabwe the country that I have lived since birth until 2003.
This is the Africa people do not hear too often but the reality of the matter is that, this is the true Africa where a woman’s office is the kitchen . I was emotionally and physically affected by the plight of the Zimbabwean women and young girls, especially widows, children orphans by HIV/AIDS. What I saw is hard to describe let alone imagine as it is far removed from the Zimbabwe I grew up in.
The experience left me with a vast feeling of emptiness and helplessness. There were about 20 widows within the community they told me about the difficulties they face their children not being able to go to school because of school fees. I felt pain as I have experience on that I was once a widow. And that means everything will be taken away from you by your husband family. I counted more than 100 orphaned children within the community who were out of school because of school fees. What I saw made me realise that in this world you should not wait for others to do it. But be on the side of those who make it happen.
However together with the community, Youth, Sizanani Women we have fought to change that by empowering women in that village. We are very thankful as this has developed to a wider link and involved both communities in Wales and Africa.
Women from both parts are learning some skills from each other. We have developed school links as well, and this project is broadening to the whole district in Insiza. Please Support us and turn oppression to oportunity.
